How do I search for EPA facilities by address?
Use the "By Address" tab above. Enter a street address, city name, or 5-digit ZIP code — or combine them in a single field, for example "Industrial Blvd Houston TX 77001". Include a state abbreviation or full state name to narrow results. The search covers every RCRA-registered facility in the EPA ECHO database.
What is an EPA Handler ID (RCRA ID)?
An EPA Handler ID is a unique 12-character identifier assigned to every facility that generates, transports, treats, stores, or disposes of hazardous waste under RCRA. The first two characters are the state abbreviation (e.g., TX, CA). This ID appears on hazardous waste manifests, biennial reports, and regulatory filings.
Why would I search by address instead of facility name?
Address search is useful when you know a location but not the registered business name — for example, when investigating a property, auditing a supplier's site, or verifying that a neighboring facility is registered. It's also helpful when a facility operates under a parent company name different from its registered EPA name.
What does compliance status mean?
Whether the facility has a violation that is still open in EPA's RCRAInfo data. "No open violations" means every recorded violation has been resolved, not that the facility was never cited or fined. Past fines appear under "RCRA Penalties (All Years)", and the RCRA Penalty Explorer lists each penalty since 2015. Check with your state environmental agency for the current enforcement picture.
How current is the address data?
The address data is sourced from EPA ECHO's RCRA bulk download and refreshed every 48 hours. It reflects the facility address as registered in RCRAInfo. Address changes submitted to the EPA may take 1–2 days to appear here.
